Governor Inslee visits Oso and finds grief, inspiration

Saturday marks three weeks since the deadly Oso mudslide traveled nearly a mile, crossing the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River and buried a residential area.

So far, the Snohomish County medical examiner has identified 36 people who died in the slide. Seven remain missing.

On Friday, Governor Jay Inslee made another visit to the communities of Arlington and Darrington.

Inslee went to a rally at Post Middle School in Arlington, where the kids have raised over $4,000 to families affected by the slide – including the family of one of the classmates they’ve lost.

It’s just one story of many, where community that has been hurt, has come together to help each each other.

“I think in the middle of the grief that we’re having it’s important to note that there is a lot of hope too,” Inslee told KIRO Radio’s Ron & Don Show.

Inslee also praised the volunteers, especially those at the Oso fire department, and said they provided a great deal of inspiration.

“I know people are still so grief-stricken about this and we’re very thankful for people across the state helping these communities.”
