Part of a construction barrier on the SR 410 overpass collapsed on a vehicle, killing a young family Monday morning.
The family was identified by EastPointe Foursquare Church as Josh and Vanessa Ellis and their 8-month-old child, Hudson. Josh and Vanessa were youth pastors, according to the EastPointe staff page.
A candlelight vigil is scheduled at the church for Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Bonney Lake Police said the family died after concrete and scaffolding fell on a truck at Angeline Rd E & SR 410 near Bonney Lake.
The incident happened around 10:15 a.m.
“The project was to add a pedestrian walkway along that overpass on SR 410,” Bonney Lake spokesman Woody Edvalson told the Tacoma News Tribune. “This accident occurred as a result of that effort.”
Edvalson said the project started about a month ago and crews with the contractor, WHH Nisqually, were on the scene when the incident happened. The project is part of improving the city’s sidewalks.
It’s not clear what caused the barrier to fall.
