Where does the Seahawks stunning, come-from-behind victory Sunday rank in the pantheon of Seattle sports? For KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson, it’s tops.
On his show Monday, Dori called it the most remarkable game in the city’s sports history:
“In 35 years, 40 years, I’ve seen pretty much every major Seattle sporting event. Sunday’s Seahawks-Packers game has risen to number one on that all time list of Seattle sporting events, and I’m pretty confident in anybody’s life,” Dori said.
“Up till Sunday, the Mariners-Yankees 1995 game, Edgar’s double, Griffey scores from first, that was number one. But because this was as dramatic, it was so unexpected after how poorly the Seahawks had been playing for the first 56 minutes and also the magnitude of the game.
“The Mariners game didn’t get them to the World Series, it got them to the American League Championship. The only thing close, maybe when the Sonics won the world championship. But they won the World Championship in ’79 on the road, they were playing at the Washington Bullets.
“I cannot imagine what it’s like to be a Green Bay fan because they had the trip to the Super Bowl. It was a done deal, and then the Seahawks pulled off one of the most amazing turnarounds in the history of the game.”
