After telling a story of wronging legendary pitcher Randy Johnson for 25 years, KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson finally had his chance to apologize on Sunday. The main question was whether or not he would go through with it.
“I was afraid the listeners would think I was a real wimp if I didn’t do it,” he said.
Before raising the 12th Man flag Sunday, the former Mariners pitcher spoke with Dori on the Seahawks pregame show. Monson previously spent time with the Big Unit in 1990, when Dori was working as a sports producer at King 5. Dori has explained the awkward interaction with the Hall of Famer plenty over his radio career: How he picked the Mariners’ then first-year pitcher up for an interview in Arizona, only to see the time allotted for the segment dip from a four-minute interview to an approximately 45 second visual gag about the 6-foot-10-inch athlete’s height.

Dori said Johnson was “furious” on the entire silent-treatment-filled car ride back to the hotel.
“We wasted an hour of his life that evening,” Dori said. “I understand why he was ticked off.”
So, before finishing Sunday’s interview, Dori brought up the story and apologized.
“How do you remember that?” Johnson responded. “I don’t remember things last week and you’re remembering something like 25 years ago.
“Took you 25 years: Apology accepted,” Johnson added. “Now we’re doing an interview.”
Now that Dori’s got that apology off his chest, how long do you think it will take him to say sorry to Mayor Ed Murray?
