‘Everything is Awesome’ for producer

If you don’t know who Shawn Patterson is yet, you will soon.

Here’s what Jeff Weiss of the Washington Post wrote about him Friday:

You can’t dismiss seven-time nominee Diane Warren (“Grateful” from “Beyond the Lights”) or Gregg Alexander, frontman of late-1990s alternative rockers the New Radicals, up for “Lost Stars” from “Begin Again.” Finally, there’s Shawn Patterson, who invariably triggers the question: Who is Shawn Patterson?

The short answer is he’s the composer and lyricist of “Everything Is Awesome,” the gold-plaque-burnished, Grammy-nominated, worker-bee anthem from “The Lego Movie.”

The longer answer is that he’s a former plastic-factory laborer who gambled on Los Angeles two decades ago, with a few contacts and $400 in his pocket.
